When was Fairmount Santrol founded?

Bill Conway, former chairman and chief executive officer and current chairman emeritus, founded the company in 1978 when he purchased Best Sand, a small silica sand mining operation in northeast Ohio. Best Sand merged with Wedron Silica in 1984 to form Fairmount Minerals (now Fairmount Santrol). Please click here for more information about our history.
